Growing Guide
1. Sowing and Germination:
Sow seeds indoors in a seed tray or small pots, covering them lightly with compost. Place them in a warm, bright location, maintaining a consistent temperature of 15–20°C for optimal germination.
2. Transplanting and Support:
Once seedlings have their first true leaves and are sturdy, pot them on into individual containers. After acclimatizing them to outdoor conditions, plant them in a sunny, sheltered spot. Support is essential for this tall vine; provide a sturdy stake, tomato cage, or string for it to climb, as it can easily grow over 6 feet.
3. Ongoing Care:
Water regularly and consistently to prevent problems like blossom end rot. Begin feeding with a high-potassium tomato fertilizer once the first truss of fruit has set.
4. Pruning:
As an indeterminate (cordon) variety, it benefits from having its side shoots (suckers) removed from the leaf joints to encourage a single, strong main stem. To concentrate energy on ripening the existing fruit late in the season, you can pinch out the main growing tip after 5 or 6 trusses have formed.
