Growing Guide
1. Stratification (Cold Treatment):
This is a crucial first step. Cherry seeds require a simulated winter to break dormancy. Place the seeds in a sealed plastic bag with slightly moist sand or peat moss and refrigerate them (not freeze) for 8-12 weeks.
2. Sowing:
After the stratification period, plant the seeds about 2-3 cm deep in a pot filled with a well-draining potting mix.
3. Germination and Early Care:
Place the pot in a warm, bright location and keep the soil consistently moist. Patience is key, as germination can be slow and unpredictable, taking anywhere from several weeks to a few months.
4. Transplanting and Final Placement:
Once the seedlings are several inches tall and have developed a few sets of true leaves, they can be carefully transplanted into larger individual pots. When the young tree is sturdy and all risk of frost has passed, it can be moved to its final, sunny outdoor location. Remember, trees grown from seed require several years of growth before they begin to bear fruit.
